Cloud-based Ocean Forecast System

Cloud-based Ocean Forecast System

Migrated an on-premises ocean forecast workflow to a cloud-native pipeline for a commercial client, cutting compute cost and turnaround time for daily forecast delivery.

1
The Challenge

The client’s existing forecast system ran on dedicated on-prem hardware requiring manual intervention each cycle, which limited reliability and made it difficult to scale to additional regions.

2
The Approach

Re-architected the ROMS forecast pipeline as containerized, scheduled cloud jobs, automating data ingestion, model execution, and output publishing end-to-end.

3
The Result

The forecast cycle now runs unattended, with meaningfully lower compute cost and faster turnaround than the on-prem setup, and automated failure alerts replacing manual monitoring.

Built on the Regional Ocean Forecast System (ROMS) product — this engagement took that existing system and re-platformed its operational delivery for a commercial client.
